About Lights Out

The classic Lights Out puzzle, free in your browser. Every tap toggles a light and the four lights touching it, so fixing one corner can undo another. Work through endless levels on a 5×5 or 6×6 board, each with a par score for the fewest possible moves. Stuck? A hint shows a press from the shortest solution.

How to play Lights Out

  1. Tap any light. It flips, along with the lights above, below, left and right of it.
  2. Turn every light off to clear the level.
  3. Try to match par: the fewest presses that can solve the board.
  4. Each cleared level unlocks the next, slightly harder one.

Tips and strategy

  • Pressing the same light twice cancels out, so each light needs at most one press.
  • Clear the board row by row: press the cell below each lit light, then deal with the last row.
  • Order doesn't matter: only which lights you press.

Is every board solvable?

Yes. Boards are made by pressing random lights on a dark board, so they can always be switched off. Par comes from an exact solver.

What does par mean?

The fewest presses that solve the board. Matching it earns a 'Perfect!'.
