N-Queens
Place N queens so no two can attack each other.
About N-Queens
The famous eight queens puzzle, on boards from 4×4 up to 10×10. Place one queen per row so that none share a row, column or diagonal. Queens under attack turn red, and you can switch on attack lines to see which squares are covered. A hint places the next queen in a way that keeps the puzzle solvable, or tells you when your current queens can't lead to a solution.
How to play N-Queens
- Tap a square to place a queen; tap again to remove it.
- No two queens may share a row, column or diagonal.
- Queens that are under attack turn red.
- Place N queens on an N×N board to win.
Tips and strategy
- Work row by row from the top.
- Corners are usually a bad start on an 8×8 board.
- If you get stuck, step back one row rather than starting again.
