Tap the Beat
The metronome fades to silence. Can you keep the beat on your own?
About Tap the Beat
A rhythm test for your inner clock. A metronome plays eight beats, fades out over four, then goes silent while you keep tapping for sixteen more. You get a score, your average timing error in milliseconds, whether you rushed or dragged, the tempo you ended on, and a chart of every beat. Three tempos, and a sync step so speaker delay doesn't count against you.
How to play Tap the Beat
- Pick a tempo. Use Sync once if you're on Bluetooth headphones.
- Tap along with the click: the big button, or Space.
- When it fades and goes silent, keep tapping at the same speed.
- After 16 silent beats, see how close each tap landed.
Tips and strategy
- Nod your head or tap your foot: whole-body timing is steadier.
- Most people rush when nervous. Relax into the slow tempo.
- Count "1 2 3 4" in your head through the silence.
Tap the Beat FAQ
What's a good score?
Over 850 means you stayed within about 20 ms on average, which is drummer territory. 650 or more is a solid groove.
Why do my taps feel late with Bluetooth headphones?
Wireless headphones and some speakers add a delay. Use the Sync button before playing: tap along to 16 clicks and the game lines its timing up with what you actually hear. The setting is saved in your browser.
Is Tap the Beat free to play?
Yes. Tap the Beat is free in your browser on OFF PLAY, with nothing to download or install.
