Melody Lanes
A four-lane rhythm game where your hits play the melody. Miss a note and the music skips.
About Melody Lanes
Notes fall down four lanes in time with a drum beat, and every note you hit plays the next bit of the melody: Für Elise, Ode to Joy, Canon in D and more. Lanes follow the tune, low notes on the left and high on the right, and long notes must be held. Each hit is judged Perfect, Great or Good, and you get an accuracy score and a grade from S to D. A quick sync step lines the timing up with your headphones.
How to play Melody Lanes
- Choose a song and a tempo. Press Sync once to match the game to your speakers or headphones.
- Hit each note as it crosses the line: D F J K, or tap the lane.
- Hold long notes until their tail ends for a bonus.
- Perfect, Great and Good hits build your combo. A miss resets it, and that note stays silent.
Tips and strategy
- Hum the tune. Because lanes follow the melody, knowing the song tells you where the next note goes.
- Play with your ears more than your eyes once you're synced.
- Start on Easy (80% speed) to learn a song's shape.
Melody Lanes FAQ
Why do my taps feel late with Bluetooth headphones?
Wireless headphones and some speakers add a delay. Use the Sync button before playing: tap along to 16 clicks and the game lines its timing up with what you actually hear. The setting is saved in your browser.
How is this different from Rhythm Tap?
Rhythm Tap is a three-lane drum-and-bass groove. In Melody Lanes your hits play real melodies from classical pieces, the lanes trace the tune, and there are hold notes.
Do I need sound on?
Yes. These are listening games, so turn your volume up. Headphones work best, and the game warns you if OFF PLAY's sound is switched off.
Is Melody Lanes free to play?
Yes. Melody Lanes is free in your browser on OFF PLAY, with nothing to download or install.
