About Drawing Telephone

Telephone Pictionary for 3 to 10 players on one phone, tablet or laptop. Everyone writes a prompt, then the device passes along: the next player draws it, the next describes the drawing, the next draws that description, and so on. Nobody sees the earlier steps until the reveal, when each chain plays back one step at a time. Save any chain as an image to share with the group.

How to play Drawing Telephone

  1. Add 3 to 10 players and pick a chain length and timers.
  2. Pass the device to the named player. Each player starts a chain by writing something to draw (or tap shuffle for an idea).
  3. Keep passing: drawing turns get the last description, guessing turns get the last drawing and describe it.
  4. When every turn is done, reveal each chain step by step and laugh at how far it drifted.
  5. Save any chain as an image to post in the group chat.

Tips and strategy

  • Prompts with an action are funnier than single objects: 'a shark at a job interview' beats 'shark'.
  • No letters or numbers in drawings. Make the next player work for it.
  • Play the short chain mode for big groups, so everyone isn't waiting too long.
