Cryptogram
Crack the letter-swap cipher to reveal a famous quote.
About Cryptogram
A free cryptogram game. Every letter of a famous quote or proverb has been swapped for a different letter, and your job is to crack the code. Pick a letter in the puzzle and type your guess: every copy of that cipher letter fills in at once. Use common short words, double letters and the letter-count panel to get a foothold. Choose easy, normal or hard, and use hints if you're stuck. Quotes come from classic literature, history and proverbs.
How to play Cryptogram
- Each letter in the quote has been replaced by a different letter. The same cipher letter always stands for the same real letter.
- Tap a letter in the puzzle, then type or tap your guess. Every copy of it fills in.
- Pink letters mean you've used the same guess for two different cipher letters.
- Use Check to see which guesses are wrong, Hint to reveal a letter, and Letter counts to spot the common ones.
Tips and strategy
- One-letter words are almost always A or I.
- THE, AND and THAT are the most common short words in English.
- An apostrophe followed by one letter is usually S or T.
